Kolaco, Inc.

Challenge

Kolaco had contracted with another technical writer to produce their software manual. They were looking for the technical aptitude to understand the product and strong organizational and writing skills. This writer failed to follow through on promises made; they considered several other writers before speaking with us.

Approach

We knew that Kolaco was looking for quality technical writing, but understood their requirements were very specific. We asked to look at the draft and delivered a precise 22-point "improvement plan," not a proposal, that we thought would make this an excellent manual.

Resolution

Since we already knew database fundamentals and liked the look of the product, we were eager to begin. We spent a few hours learning the product before producing a 52-page manual in Microsoft's Word and Adobe Acrobat's pdf format.

Kolaco was satisfied that a technical writer had followed through on a proposal for completing the work, off-site and unsupervised.

Radianz, Inc.

Challenge

Radianz, Inc., based in New York City and less than 2 years old, had an unusual problem. One of their chief business values was the transactional security found in their global financial Extranet. Their Security department needed to document their approach to security. Their foundation document, "The Security Structure and Framework," was needed in Microsoft's Word a.s.a.p. This document was actually a combination of 6 previous documents. Our lead technical writer worked directly with the Security department.

Approach

The "Security Structure and Framework" was a technical document that was primarily written for sales departments of prospective customers. Translation: It needed to communicate the technical to a non-technical audience. The document had to be heavily edited for content, style and grammar; Visio diagrams needed to be created and inserted; and extensive front and back material (including a 15-page index) was needed.

Resolution

Radianz's sales department used this highly informative and accessible document as an effective sales tool. The original 3-month contract was extended 15 months; our lead writer moved from the Products department to the Technology and Property Services department.


EcoSol Solar Technologies, Ltd.

Challenge

Andrew Kular, president of EcoSol, contacted us weeks prior to a major presentation with a Fortune 100 company. The meeting was postponed, then rescheduled again - then pushed up. He faced but a few days to prepare for the biggest presentation his new company would make.

Approach

Photovoltaics? Never heard of it before speaking with EcoSol. Andrew had lots of source material. We read through documents and interviewed Andrew until we had a firm grasp of the subject matter and, more importantly, what he wanted to communicate and achieve with his presentation.

Resolution

We stayed up until 11:00pm the night before the presentation, but we finished on time. EcoSol delivered an excellent presentation that won the praise of their audience and engaged key decision-makers at the Fortune 100 company.
